Eaton Rapids Air
September 13 through the 16th brings the annual visit of Airstream motorcoaches to the streets of Eaton Rapids. In it’s 7th year, the event features the iconic silver trailers camping on Main Street and a slew of activities around town for everyone. The event was originally known as Urban Air.
With the theme of “Wizard of Oz” this year, excitement is up! Lots of activities are planned to make this the biggest and the best event yet. You’ll see Dorothy and her friends throughout the weekend, following the Yellow Brick Road!
The Airstreamers start arriving on Thursday, September 13. With about 100 Airstreams expected, this will affect the traffic situation on Main Street while they are being parked in their designated “camp site”. Be patient--it will clear soon!
Using the Oz theme, the campers will decorate their home-away-from-home, and the public will vote for the best with cans and packages of food, which is then donated to our local food bank, Heart and Hands. Our visitors come from all over the state--and beyond! and are a very friendly bunch- so come down to check them out!
We hope you will pack your picnic basket and join us for a Community Potluck on Friday evening from 5-7pm. Everyone is welcome! Mayor Malewski will provide the hotdogs, and Mark's Place is providing their famous hotdog cart to serve from, so bring your favorite dish to pass, something to drink and table service to the Emerald City Tent near Island Park. The big band group, Twilight Memories, will entertain from 6 to 8pm, along with the Eaton Rapids High School Chorus. The evening will get even more exciting with a bonfire at Mill Point Park 8-10 pm with music and fire spinners.
Saturday features a full day of fun! Enjoy a great breakfast at the Congregational Church from 7:30-10:30 to power up for the CASA Superhero 5k run! Vendors, the Community Market and kid’s activities will take place on Hamlin Street. The Miller Farm will be open for tours and activities all day. At 10:30 am, grab your ruby slippers and cameras and meet at the GAR Island Park gazebo for the Oz Character Contest. Participants will follow the Yellow Brick Road up to the Emerald City Tent for a Lunch with Dorothy from 12-1pm. You don’t have to be in the costume contest to have lunch, and adults and children are welcome. About 12:30 there will be the dog show in the Tent—do you have the best Toto, or the best Oz costume for your dog? We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
Can you sing, make a joke or play an instrument? The fun continues with a Kids Open Mic contest at the GAR Island Gazebo right after the dog show.
The Senior Center will host a Fazolis Spaghetti dinner from 6-8pm on Saturday in the Emerald City Tent. Contact the Center for ticket information. The Sea Cruisers will entertain right after dinner, so bring your dancing shoes! They are also sponsoring a BIG RAFFLE, and someone will take home up to $1250!
Sunday at 10:15am Pastor Jim Riley from Eaton Rapids Assembly of God will lead a church service at the Emerald City Tent. Everyone is welcome!
